What outdoor equipment comes with a cabin rental? We have 1 kayak, and 2 Stand Up Paddle Boards. The kayaks and paddle boards come with oars. Please bring your own swim vests. We do not provide them.
Is there a grill? We provide a propane grill for grilling.
Is there a fire pit? Yes. We provide complementary firewood (when we can keep up with demand). You may bring your own or purchase bundles of firewood at nearby convenience stores. We do not provide pokers or utensils for hot dogs/marshmallows.
Is there a public beach anywhere? Yes and No. Lake of Egypt is a 2,400 acres residential lake. The beaches you may see on Lake of Egypt are privately owned. That being said, we have agreements where our guests can access. There is a key located inside the cabin to the Elk's private beach. It's a great place to swim, kayak, paddle board, bank fish and have a picnic. Here is the MAP LOCATIONof the beach. It is 1 mile from the cabins. We just ask that you lock the gate behind you both ways. We also list all of the amazing southern Illinois beaches and watering holes in our Welcome Packet when you book.
Do you allow service animals? Yes. We charge the same price per pet for service animals due to the extra costs of cleaning and wear/tear. Host, Allison, is a service-disabled combat veteran and stands by this policy.
Tips to make your stay great!
Pets live on property. We have a very docile Great Dane and an old lab mix. No tip here- just letting you know who might greet you first.
We have 4 paddle boards available for use on a first come, first serve basis. They are mobile. They will fit in a back seat or large trunk.
If you plan to swim or boat, please bring your own life vests to ensure proper fitting and security. We do not provide life vests.
If you plan to swim or boat, please bring beach towels. We do not provide them.
The cabins are in a rural location. Plan your grocery shopping ahead of time to enjoy your day of arrival. The nearest grocery stores are approximately 15 minutes away (We have a Dollar General Store 1 mile away for convenience items and some produce.)
The cabins are in a rural location. Mentally prepare to do some driving to get to all of our amazing spots. For example, the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail consists of 11 wineries and spans over a 40-mile trail. The Shawnee National Forest covers the lower 9 counties from the Ohio to the Mississippi River.
Check out our Welcome Packet that offers all of our favorite recommendation of places to go and things to do. This is automatically sent at the time of booking.
If you plan on renting a pontoon boat, please book early! Both marinas that rental pontoons have limited supply and they go quickly on high demand dates. Weiner Rides will drop the pontoon at Pyramid Acres Marina- Our personal recommendation! Egyptian Hills Marina and Mack's Marina.
